Veteran's Day 2009
I'm just tryin' to be a father, raise a daughter and a son
Be a lover to their mother, everythin' to everyone
Up and at 'em bright and early, I'm all business in my suit
Yeah I'm dressed up for success, from my head down to my boots
I don't do it for money, there's bills I that I can't pay
I don't do it for the glory, I just do it anyway
Providing for our future's, my responsibility
Yeah I'm real good under pressure, being all that I can be
And I can't call in sick on Mondays when the weekend's been too strong
I just work straight through the holidays, and sometimes all night long
You can bet that I stand ready, when the wolf growls at the door
Hey I'm solid, hey I'm steady, hey I'm true down to the core.
And I will always do my duty no matter what the price
I've counted up the cost, I know the sacrifice
Oh and I don't want to die for you, but if dyin's asked of me
I'll bear that cross with honor, cause freedom don't come free.
I'm an American Soldier an American
Beside my brothers and my sisters, I will proudly take a stand
When liberty's in jeopardy, I will always do what's right
I'm out here on the front lines, sleep in peace tonight
American Soldier, I'm and American, Soldier.
An American Soldier an American
Beside my brothers and my sisters, I will proudly take a stand
When liberty's in jeopardy, I will always do what's right
I'm out here on the front lines, sleep in peace tonight
American Soldier, I'm and American, an American, an American, Soldier.
Yes, this is a Toby Keith song. The man has the most patriotic music out there, and since today is Veteran's Day, well, why not use one song?
As you know, Veteran's Day is a holiday celebrated throughtout the USA to honor both the living and deceased men and women who served, and are currently serving our country. I went to a Toby Keith concert last week, and the one thing that he said after singing, Courtesy of the Red, White and Blue was "Don't be afraid to be patriotic."

Patriotism- devoted love, support, and defense of one's country; national loyalty.

For those that don't know in the United States Military, there are five Service Branches:
Army
Marine Corps
Navy
Air Force
Coast Guard
And then, you have the National Guard.
As for on soil bases, you have the Federal, State and Local government that include:
FBI
CIA
Department of Homeland Security
Capitol Police
Marshall Services
NCIS
State Troopers
Local Law Enforcement officers
And much more. All these fine men and women risk their lives everyday to secure our freedom, whether on US soil or on foreign soil. We shouldn't just thank these fine people on holidays, but everyday.
Thank a soldier. Thank a veteran. Not just today, but every chance you have.
This We'll Defend
Semper Fidelis- The Few, The Proud
Non sibi sed patriae - Not Self, But Country
Above All
Semper Paratus
Protecting and serving you and your family for years past, and years to come. Whether over seas, or on US soil, they are here, working day and night to secure your freedom. Putting their lives before ours.
"In the long history of the world, only a few generations have been granted the role of defending freedom in its hour of maximum danger. I do not shrink from this responsibility--I welcome it. I do not believe that any of us would exchange places with any other people or any other generation. The energy, the faith, the devotion which we bring to this endeavor will light our country and all who serve it--and the glow from that fire can truly light the world. And so, my fellow Americans: ask not what your country can do for you--ask what you can do for your country. My fellow citizens of the world: ask not what America will do for you, but what together we can do for the freedom of man." - John F. Kennedy

Well said, Holly, thanks. There was a dedication of a new Veterans Memorial in our town (Asheville, NC), in a newly-constructed park. I was pleased I was able, as one who could not serve, to attend the dedication, and thank those in our area who have served.
Thanks, Holly. Take care! :)

A great reminder of why we celebrate Veterans Day. It's so easy sometimes to take for granted those who have chosen to protect and serve our country. It is thanks to their sacrifice that we can enjoy all the great freedoms we have in this country.
